Key changes include new pedestrian-only zones around the library precinct, a upgraded Forest Road plaza with seating and shade trees, and reallocated parking along MacMahon Street to create wider footpaths. Georges River Council approved a six-storey mixed-use building at 163 Forest Road, Hurstville. The development includes ground-floor retail space and 42 apartments above, with a mix of one, two and three-bedroom dwellings. Fifteen of the apartments are designated as affordable housing under the SEPP 70 program. The developer has also committed to streetscape improvements including new street trees, widened footpaths, and a pedestrian crossing at the nearby intersection. Construction is expected to take approximately 18 months.
The annual Beverly Hills North Public School fete returns this Saturday 7 June, running from 10am to 4pm. This year's highlights include carnival rides, a cake stall, silent auction, and the popular P&C barbecue. Highview Avenue will be closed between Orange Grove Road and Morgan Street from 8am to 5pm. Proceeds go toward new playground equipment and library resources. Entry is gold coin donation.
Sydney Water will close the southbound left lane on King Georges Road between Bellevue Road and Stoney Creek Road from Monday 8 June to Sunday 14 June. Works will take place weekdays between 9am and 3pm only. Local diversions will be in place via Bridge Street and Forest Road. Motorists should allow an extra 10โ15 minutes travel time. The work is part of Sydney Water's planned water main renewal program for the area.
